So Domino’s has started offering gluten free pizzas in their stores today. This sounds like great news..atleast I thought so when I first read it. Problem is….Domino’s doesn’t guarantee that the pizza will be gluten free. They say the ingredients are gluten free, but they can’t guarantee that it will be 100% gluten free, due to the non-gluten free flours etc that are used in the store. So, they tell people with celiac disease, to stay away from it. So maybe you all can help me understand this…WHAT IS THE POINT THEN?
Don’t get me wrong…I am very happy that they are making this step and that restauarants are becoming more aware of the gluten free need…but if they are going to offer something gluten free…then why is it not guaranteed gluten free?
Domino’s statement:
“Domino’s and the NFCA found that while the crust is certified as gluten free, current store operations at Domino’s cannot guarantee that each handcrafted pizza will be completely free from gluten,” the company’s news release said.
Is this just a disclaimer? If so, I can understand that…they don’t want to get sued when one of the stores mess up and contaminate it. But most restaurants have disclaimers about their gluten free menus. The problem I have with this is the way they are stating it. They are telling us that it’s ok for people with gluten intolerance, but not celiac disease. People with gluten intolerance can get just as sick as people with celiac disease. Also, it makes me feel that they are telling the individual store owners that it’s ok if it gets contaminated, because “they don’t guarantee it’s gluten free”. That bothers me.
Let me know what you think about this…will you try the pizza?

Hi there! I will be having a party for the new release of my book
